Intro to Incrementalism Lecture
Get the conversation started in your community.
Most people sense something is wrong with how we build communities. Housing feels out of reach, downtowns feel hollowed out, and development feels disconnected from residents. This lecture addresses these frustrations and puts them in historical context.
We explore how the shift from a traditional development pattern to a suburban one reshaped communities. Then we introduce incremental development as a practical and hopeful alternative, and show you community what it can do.
Intended audience: General public
We can also offer customized lectures on specific topics like zoning, housing, and more.
Small Scale Development Workshop
Dive deeper and engage leaders in the incremental development conversation.
Small-scale development is not done alone. It takes supportive policies, financial products, designers and builders, and neighbors. Our full-day workshop takes a diverse room of community, housing, and economic development champions and highlights the role each can play to enable more local places they love.
Session participants will get an overview of what incremental development is — the approach, the practice and its application to common building types and neighborhoods.
Intended audience: Community stakeholders and anyone interested in getting more involved in incremental development work.
Small Scale Developer
Bootcamp
Train a group of dedicated future and current developers to transform your town.
Everyone has an idea about how they could improve their neighborhood, but not everyone has the tools to take action. The Small Scale Developer Boot Camp invites up to 35 motivated local dreamers to go through the pre-development process, navigate their local zoning, develop a site plan and proforma, and set up for a successful pitch to an investing partner.
This two-day workshop is the place to get developers in your community trained up and ready to get to work on incremental projects.
Intended audience: Current and prospective developers.
