Join Us in Portland Come walk the streets of America's laboratory for innovative small-scale housing development. Portland combines the most permissive zoning in the country with a culture that embraces creative housing solutions, creating a unique landscape for developers focused on community impact.
Over three days, you'll explore neighborhoods with the developers, planners, and community leaders who are transforming them one project at a time. You'll witness how public-private partnerships create vibrant, walkable communities and hear the real stories behind successful developments—the creative wins, the obstacles overcome, and the lessons learned.
Our local steering committee has curated exceptional examples of adaptive reuse, infill development, and historic renovations across Portland's diverse neighborhoods. You'll connect with IncDev Faculty, alumni, and fellow developers while exploring the innovations that make this city a model for incremental development nationwide.
The experience begins with a FREE public lecture Thursday evening, then continues with two immersive days of guided neighborhood tours showcasing the region's most inspiring small-scale projects.
More About the Projects We’ll Explore:
Concordia's Alameda Plateau, a thoughtful cohousing for multigenerational living, and McMenamin's Kennedy School, a once-abandoned historic elementary school turned unique hotel.
Cully's cohousing communities and single-family to multi-family conversions, including Flora & Ulysses, Cully Green, and Cully Grove. Plus learn about Tiny Houses on Wheels, the newest housing type to be legalized in Portland.
Montavilla's "neighborhood farming" strategies in action, including the Tabor North 70th Cottages and gentle density of two backyard ADUs.
Richmond's evolving transformation from car-centric to people-centered SE Division Street with the Tomorrow Theater, Move the House Apartments, Ellen Browning's cohousing, and Division 43, a micro unit housing complex without off-street parking.
